  This is billed as a “Spectacle of Historical Costume.” It was a sequinned spectacle with costumes that have little to do with history. One ensemble included hot pink iridiscent sweatshirts and harem pants with tinsel draping across the women dancers’ faces instead of fabric veils or silver jewelery. It was kitschy and fun once I realized, and accepted, that this was a set of visual Orientalist stereotypes for tourist consumption. But I was expecting a folkoric pageant and was thus disappointed. You can see more interesting costume sitting on a bench in any of Samarkand’s beautiful public spaces.

  Так себе представление. Впечатление, что самодеятельность какая-то. Ожидания были сильно выше
